מפגש עם ביורן טומלר, שר המדע והתרבות של נידרזקסן Meeting with Björn Thümler, Minister of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony

ביורן טומלר שר המדע והתרבות של נידרזקסן, ביקר בישראל בסוף חודש מרס 2022, עם ציוותו ומספר חברי הלאנדטאג (הפרלמנט) שם. עו”ד מיכאל פירסט, נשיא הקהילות היהודיות בנידרזקסן ליווה אותו בביקורו בארץ.

השר טומלר דרש לכלול בלוח הזמנים שלו בישראל מפגש עם נציגי ארגון שארית הפליטה ברגן-בלזן בישראל. ואכן, מפגש כזה התקיים באווירה קרובה וידידותית.

טומלר בן 51, נשוי לכריסטינה ואב לאנטוניה בת העשרה, התגלה כאדם לבבי וסקרן. הוא שוחח ממושכות עם היו”ר הקודם של הארגון, שרגא מילשטיין ורעייתו רות, ועם היו”ר הנוכחי יוכי ריץ-אולבסקי. את דור הניצולים ייצגה בשיחה חברתנו המסורה מרתה פלאטו-לדני, שסיפרה על קורותיה בשואה. בפגישה השתתף גם חבר הנהלת הארגון והדובר אריה אולבסקי, שפיתח קשרים ובנה גשרים עם נציגי הלשכה והדוברות של השר טומלר.

בפגישה נכחו גם מנהל לשכת השר, מוריץ דוטמאייר הצעיר והנמרץ, וכן נספחת המדע בשגרירות גרמניה בישראל, הגב’ ברברה סיימץ, שגילו עניין רב בנושא הארגון.

המפגש הסתיים בהבטחות לשיתוף פעולה בין לשכת השר והארגון בישראל.

Björn Thümler, Minister of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony, visited Israel with his staff and a number of Landtag members, at the end of March 2022. Michael Fuerst, President of the Jewish communities in Lower Saxony accompanied him.

Minister Thümler demanded to include in his schedule in Israel a meeting with representatives of the Israeli Bergen-Belsen survivors’ Organization. Indeed, such a meeting took place in an intimate and friendly atmosphere.

Thümler, 51, married to Christina and father of teenage Antonia, turned out to be a hearty and curious person. He spoke at length with the organization’s former chairman, Shraga Milstein and his wife Ruth, and with current chair Jochi Ritz-Olewski. The generation of survivors was represented in the conversation by our dedicated friend Martha Flatto-Ladany, who told about her experiences during the Holocaust. Arie OIewski, spokesman and member of the Organization’s Board, who took part in the meeting, was busy in building bridges and connections with the representatives of the Minister’s office.

Also in the meeting were the director of the Minister’s Office, the young and energetic Moritz Dütemeyer, as well as the Science Attaché at the German Embassy in Israel, Ms. Barbara Seimetz. Both showed great interest in the organization.

The meeting ended with promises of cooperation between the Minister’s Office and the organization in Israel.
