אריאל יהלומי – קווים לדמותו Ariel Yahalomi passed away
אריאל יהלומי הלך לעולמו ב-23 ביוני 2022 והוא בן 98 שנה.
יליד 1923 זביירצ’ה, פולין. בגיל 16 וחצי נשלח למחנה העבודה הראשון. לאחר מכן היה בעוד שלושה מחנות אחרים עד לקיץ 1940, שבו נפצע ונשלח בחזרה לזביירצ’ה. בגטו עבד במפעל יציקת ברזל עד אוגוסט 1943, כשחוסל הגטו והיהודים נשלחו לאושוויץ-בירקנאו. לאחר הסלקציה קועקע על זרועו “השם החדש שלו” – 139948. הוריו נספו שם. חודשיים לאחר מכן נשלח למפעל קרופ עד ינואר 1945. אז יצא למצעד המוות לגרוס-רוזן ולנסיעה ברכבת פתוחה לבוכנוואלד. אחרי כמה ימים נשלח למחנה דורה-מיטלבאו, ומשם לברגן-בלזן, שם שוחרר ב-15 באפריל 1945.
כבר ב-1946 הגיע כמעפיל לפלסטינה-א”י, תחת המנדט הבריטי. עתלית הפכה למחנה ה-12 שלו, שוב מאחורי גדרות התיל.
ב-2006 נבחר לכהן כיו”ר ארגון ברגן-בלזן ישראל. היה איש מסור וחם, פעיל ואכפתי, שפעל למען הארגון ומטרותיו בתבונה, באסרטיביות ובחריצות. תמיד היטה אוזן קשבת, תמיד היה אדיב בסגנון הפולני המכובד והמכבד.
אריאל היה חבר הנהלה גם בארגון יוצאי זגלמביה, ובמשך שנים הדריך ישראלים במסעות לפולין. היה פעיל בהכנת רשימת המצבות שתועדו בבית העלמין של זביירצ’ה.
כיו”ר ארגון ברגן-בלזן בישראל הוא זכה להקריא את הצהרת הדור הראשון שניתנה בברלין, שבה, בטקס היסטורי ומרגש, העבירו ניצולי השואה את האחריות להמשך שמירת הזיכרון והנצחת השואה לבני הדור השני.
וכך אמר יהלומי: “עבורנו, הניצולים, שהיינו במפלס הנמוך ביותר של הגיהינום – המחנה של ברגן-בלזן – זו הייתה תחייה – לחזור לחיים אחרים בעולם חופשי וחדש. חלק מאיתנו, הניצולים, פעילים במתן הרצאות וכתיבת זיכרונות על הימים הנוראים ההם, ומזהירים את הדורות החדשים לגבי הביטחון בעתיד. אנחנו חשים זאת כחובתנו לדורות הבאים, להזהיר על הסכנות האפשריות מצד משטרים בעלי רעיונות קיצוניים, העשויים להוות סכנה לדורות הבאים ולתרבות האנושית”.
באסיפה הכללית והאירוע החגיגי לרגל חנוכה בדצמבר 2016, הודיע אריאל יהלומי על פרישתו עקב מצב בריאותו. החברים נפרדו ממנו במילים חמות, ואריאל הודה לכולם על שיתוף הפעולה במהלך השנים. הוא ציין כי הוא משאיר אחריו צוות מתנדבים מסור של חברי הנהלה, שהביאו לשינוי מרענן בחיי הארגון. יוכי ריץ-אולבסקי, בשם הנהלת הארגון והחברים, העניקה ליהלומי מסגרת מהודרת ובה גיליון בולים מיוחד שהונפק במיוחד עבורו, כשהוא נושא את דמותו לצד בולי המדינה.
יהלומי כתב את הספר “שרדתי” בפולנית שיצא לאור בפולין באירוע מכובד בעיר בנדין בנוכחות ראשי העיר והקהילה מאזור זגלמביה. ב-2011 הופיע תרגום לאנגלית בשם I survivedשהופץ בבתי ספר ובמוסדות חינוך רבים באירופה.
השאיר אחריו בת – ענת זולדן ובן – רפי יהלומי,] 6 נכדים ו-7 נינים.

Ariel Yahalomi passed away on June 23, 2022, 98 years old.
He was born in 1923 in Zawiercze, Poland. At the age of 16 and a half he was sent to the first labor camp, then to three other camps until the summer of 1940, when he was wounded and sent back to Zawiercze. He worked in an iron factory in the ghetto until August 1943, when the ghetto was liquidated and the Jews were sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau. After the selection, “his new name” was tattooed on his arm – 139948. His parents perished there. Two months later he was sent to the Krupp factory until January 1945. Then he set out for the death march to Gross-Rosen and was transferred by train to Buchenwald. After a few days he was sent to Dora-Mittelbau camp and from there to Bergen-Belsen, where he was liberated on April 15, 1945.
As early as 1946, he arrived as an immigrant to Palestine under the British Mandate. Atlit became his 12th camp, again behind barbed wire fences.
In 2006 he was elected chairman of the Bergen-Belsen Israel organization. He was a dedicated and warm, active and caring man, who worked for the organization and its goals wisely, assertively and diligently. He was always attentive, always kind in the respectful Polish old style.
Ariel was also a member of the board of the Zaglembie Association, and for years guided Israelis on trips to Poland. He was active in the preparation of the list of gravestones documented in the cemetery of Zawiercze.
As chairman of Bergen-Belsen organization in Israel, he was privileged to read the first generation’s declaration given in Berlin, in which, in a historic and moving ceremony, Holocaust survivors transferred the responsibility for continuing to preserve the memory and commemorate the Holocaust to the second generation.
Yahalomi said: “For us, the survivors, who were at the lowest level of hell – Bergen-Belsen camp – it was a revival – to return to another life in a free and new world. Some of us, the survivors, are active in giving lectures and writing memoirs about those terrible days, trying to warn the new generations regarding security in the future. We feel it is our duty to the future generations, to warn of the possible dangers from regimes with extremist ideas, which may pose a danger to future generations and human culture.”
At the general meeting and the festive event on the occasion of Hanukkah in December 2016, Ariel Yahalomi announced his retirement due to his health condition. All members parted with him in warm words, and Ariel thanked everyone for their cooperation over the years. He noted that he leaves behind a dedicated team of volunteers of board members, who have brought about a refreshing change in the life of the organization. Jochi Ritz-Olewski, gave him a present on behalf of the organization’s Board and members: An elegant frame with a special stamp sheet, issued especially for him, bearing his picture alongside the state stamps.
Yahalomi wrote the book “I Survived” in Polish, which was published in Poland in a prestigious event in the city of Bedzin in the presence of mayors and community from the Zaglembie region. In 2011 an English translation appeared which was distributed in many schools and educational institutions in Europe.
He left a daughter, Anat Zoldan, and a son, Rafi Yahalomi, 6 grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren.
