לרגל יום השחרור ה-76 ממחנה ברגן-בלזן, שחל ב-15 באפריל 2021 (השנה – ביום העצמאות), עלה לאינטרנט באתר יד ושם אוסף רחל ורפאל אולבסקי ז”ל ניצולי ברגן-בלזן.
רחלה זלמנוביץ-אולבסקי ניגנה בתזמורת הנשים של אושוויץ ושוחררה בברגן-בלזן. רפאל אולבסקי עבר מחנות עבודת כפייה רבים כולל אושוויץ ושוחרר אף הוא בברגן-בלזן. הוא היה מראשי מחנה העקורים שם, ולאחר העלייה לישראל כיהן כיו”ר המיתולוגי של ארגון שארית הפליטה ברגן-בלזן בישראל.

האוסף נתרם ליד ושם בידי ילדיהם של רחל ורפאל אולבסקי: יוכי ריץ-אולבסקי מרעננה, ואריה אולבסקי מהרצליה. יוכי ואריה ממשיכים במסורת אביהם, מכהנים בהתנדבות בהנהלת ארגון שארית הפליטה ברגן-בלזן בישראל, ועורכים את העיתון המחודש, ממשיכו של העיתון שהוא ייסד בברגן-בלזן.
The unique collection of the late Rachel and Rafael Olewski, survivors of Bergen-Belsen, went online
On the occasion of the 76th liberation day of the Bergen-Belsen camp, on April 15, 2021 (Israel Independence Day), the historic collection of the late Rachel and Rafael Olewski, both survivors of Bergen-Belsen, went online within the website of Yad Vashem.
Rachela Zelmanowicz-Olewski played in the Auschwitz Women’s Orchestra and was liberated in Bergen-Belsen. Rafael Olewski went through many forced labor camps including Auschwitz and was also liberated in Bergen-Belsen. He was one of the leaders of the DP camp there and after immigrating to Israel he served as the mythological chairman of the Bergen-Belsen survivor’s organization in Israel.
The collection, which cannot be overstated in its importance, includes rare items, documents and photos from the period of the DP camp, as well as from the history of the Bergen-Belsen survivor’s organization in Israel since its establishment. The collection was donated to Yad Vashem by the children of Rachel and Rafael Olewski: Jochi Ritz-Olewski from Raanana, and Arie Olewski from Herzliya. Jochi and Arie continue in their father’s tradition, volunteering in the board of the Bergen-Belsen organization in Israel, and editing the newspaper that their father founded in Bergen-Belsen.
