שנה טובה!

לקראת השנה החדשה אנו נוטים לשַמֵר את הזיכרון מבית ההורים. המבוגרים שבינינו עדיין זוכרים את התרנגול שסובבו מעל ראשינו לכפרות; אחרים זוכרים את הקרפיון ששחה באמבטיה עד שנקרא למלא את יעודו על שולחן החג…

מה היה לפני 81 שנים, במחנה העקורים ברגן-בלזן? ראש השנה הראשון לאחר השחרור. על מה חשבו הורינו? אירופה עדיין דיממה, והזיכרונות היו טריים וכואבים.

אני מצרף כאן את הקול המודפס של הניצולים, שער גיליון מספר 3 של העיתון "אונדזער שטימע" – קולנו. בשער הצבעוני של העיתון, שכולו נכתב בכתב יד והודפס במכונת שכפול, מופיע ציור של תוקע בשופר. הצייר אלמוני. בתוך הגיליון כתב אבי רפאל אולבסקי ז"ל, היוזם של העיתון הזה, אודות מדרשי חז"ל העוסקים בראש השנה. בסוף המאמר הוא כתב כי הגיעה השעה לשמוע את שופר הגאולה המיוחל.

עכשיו זה שלנו. בתקופה הקשה בשנים האחרונות הצלחנו לשמור על קשר איתכם, גם אם לא עם כולכם, וחבל. גם בשנה האחרונה הצטרפו אלינו חברות וחברים חדשים. במהלך כל השנה, וכמעט בכל שבוע, ההנהלה שלנו מתכנסת לתכנן אירועים, ליזום פעילויות ולמלא את המחויבויות של הארגון לפי התקנון. כולנו מתנדבים, והכל למענכם.

אם מורשת הוריכם חשובה לכם, סייעו לנו. השמיעו קול, הצטרפו לאירועים וגם הציעו לנו עזרה בהתנדבות. 

כולנו מאחלים לכם שנה טובה יותר, עם עתיד טוב יותר למדינה, לארגון, ולכולנו באופן אישי. כאן המקום שאליו בחרו הורינו להגיע. יש לנו אחריות לזה.

As the New Year approaches, we tend to preserve memories from our parents' homes. The older among us still remember the rooster swung over our heads for kapparot; others remember the carp that swam in the bathtub until it was called upon to fulfill its destiny on the holiday table…

What was it like 81 years ago, in the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp? It was the first Rosh Hashanah after liberation. What were our parents thinking about? Europe was still bleeding, and the memories were fresh and painful.

I am attaching here the printed voice of the survivors: the cover of issue No. 3 of the newspaper Unzer Shtime ("Our Voice"). The colorful cover of the newspaper, which was entirely handwritten and printed on a duplicating machine, features a drawing of a man blowing the shofar. The artist is unknown. Inside the issue, my father, the late Rafael Olevsky, who founded the newspaper, wrote about the Sages' midrashim on Rosh Hashanah. At the end of the article, he wrote that the time had come to hear the long-awaited shofar of redemption.

Now it is ours. During the difficult period of recent years, we managed to stay in touch with you, though not with all of you, which is a pity. This past year, too, new members joined us. Throughout the year, almost every week, our board meets to plan events, initiate activities, and fulfill the organization's obligations under its bylaws. We are all volunteers, and everything we do is for you.

If your parents' legacy matters to you, help us. Make your voice heard, join our events, and offer us your help as volunteers.

We all wish you a better year, with a better future for the country, for the organization, and for each of us personally. This is the place our parents chose to come to. We have a responsibility to it.
