הפעם האחרונה שבה אמרו הגרמנים ליהודים מה לעשות בברגן-בלזן הייתה ביום השחרור 15 באפריל 1945 בבוקר
ב-15 באפריל ציינו בישראל מלאת 80 שנה לשחרור מחנה המוות ברגן-בלזן, אולם הרוחות סוערות בארגון הישראלי המייצג את ניצולי בלזן ובני משפחותיהם בישראל, הארגון הגדול בעולם מסוגו.
מזה שנתיים, ובעיקר לאחר טבח 7 באוקטובר 2023, מחרימה ממשלת נידרזקסן בגרמניה את נציגי הארגון הישראלי, ולמעשה את כל חבריו. זאת למרות שמקהילת בלזן בישראל נהרג בן דור שלישי ואחר נפצע קשה כבר ביום הראשון, כאשר שניהם הגנו על בתיהם בעוטף. ולמרות זאת, בטקס הבינלאומי בגרמניה, שייערך ב-27 באפריל, אין זכות דיבור לנציג הארגון הישראלי.
"ככל הנראה מדובר בשיקולים פוליטיים מקומיים ובזויים של ממשלת נידרזקסן, שמעדיפה את קהל הבוחרים המוסלמים על פני הנאמנות לזיכרון השואה בברגן-בלזן" – אומר אריה אולבסקי, יושב ראש הארגון. "בפעם הראשונה מזה 80 שנה מטמאים שיקולים פוליטיים את האתר המקודש הזה".
בפועל, מספר אולבסקי, מדובר בהתנכלות על בסיס אישי ולאומי, שמנעה מהארגון הישראלי להשמיע דברו בטקסי הזיכרון החל משנת 2024 וכלה בטקס המרכזי השנה בסוף אפריל. שקרים, התחמקויות ולבסוף ההשתקה הבלתי נמנעת היו חלק ממסכת ארוכה של סתימת פיות הישראלים.
גם ישיבת המועצה המייעצת הבינלאומית, שהארגון בישראל חבר בה, נקבעה לבוקר שבו המשלחת הישראלית תחזור לישראל.
זאת אף זאת: הטקס השנה היה אמור להיות מגה-אירוע, בהשתתפות מאות משפחות של ניצולים. היו להם עשר שנים להתכונן לאירוע הזה, ופתאום אין להם תקציב להזמין את הדור השני!
בארגון יש חשש, שראש ממשלת נידרזקסן הורה שלא לשתף בטקס המרכזי את נציג הארגון ו"לעשות זאת בשקט". "מסתבר שנידרזקסן מעלה באמון הציבורי ואינה ראויה עוד לתת חסות לאתר הזיכרון של המחנה הנורא הזה. ממשלת גרמניה הפקידה אותו – אולי מוטב לומר הפקירה – בידי סקסוניה התחתונה, וגרמניה נדרשת עכשיו להפקיע אותו – כאתר לאומי – ולהקים גוף בינלאומי ראוי לניהול בחסות הממשלה הגרמנית הפדרלית" – אומר אולבסקי. בכלל, המסקנה היא שרק גרמנים לא יכולים עוד לנהל את המקום הקדוש הזה. לא נוותר ואנחנו גם ננצח. אנחנו תמיד נישאר עם בלזן בליבנו.

On April 15, Israel will mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen death camp, but the Israeli organization representing Belsen survivors and their families in Israel is in turmoil.
For the past two years, and especially after the October 7, 2023 massacre, the Niedersachsen government in Germany has been boycotting representatives of the Israeli organization, and in fact all its members. This is despite the fact that a third generation member of the Belsen community in Israel was killed and another was seriously injured on the first day, when both were defending their homes in the Gaza area. Despite this, at the international ceremony in Germany, which will be held on April 27, the representative of the Israeli organization was not given the right to speak.
"It seems that these are local and despicable political considerations of the Niedersachsen government, which prefers the Muslim electorate over loyalty to the memory of the Holocaust in Bergen-Belsen," said Arie Olewski, the organization's chairman. "For the first time in 80 years, political considerations are defiling this sacred site."
In practice, Olewski says, this is harassment on a personal and national basis, which prevented the Israeli organization from addressing the memorial ceremonies from 2024 until the main ceremony this year at the end of April. Lies, evasion and finally the inevitable silencing were part of a long series of silencing the Israelis. The meeting of the International Advisory Council, of which the organization in Israel is a member, was also scheduled for the morning when the Israeli delegation returns to Israel. Moreover, this year's ceremony was supposed to be a mega-event, with the participation of hundreds of families of survivors. They had ten years to prepare for this event, and suddenly they didn't have the budget to invite the second generation!
There is concern in the organization, that the Prime Minister of Niedersachsen ordered that the organization's representative not be included in the main ceremony and that "it should be done quietly."
"It appears that Niedersachsen is not to be trusted anymore and unworthy of taking care of the memorial site of this terrible camp. The German government has entrusted it – perhaps it should be said abandoned – to Lower Saxony, and Germany is now required to expropriate it – as a national site – and to establish an international body worthy of management under the auspices of the German federal government," says Olewski. "The conclusion is that only Germans can no longer manage this holy place. We will not give up and we will also win. And we will always remain with Belsen in our hearts."
